Spring Break Recap

Last week was our spring break. It really came at a perfect time! I was getting so stressed out with work, i needed the break!

We ended up staying in town on Monday for the big National Championship game Monday night. I'm so glad we decided to stay so we could be in Lexington for everything!

SO SO PROUD OF OUR UK WILDCATS FOR WINNING THE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP!!!!!

We watching the game at our favorite spot, Tin Roof!

With about 1,000 of our closest friends! Haha

It was fun to be down there. But I admit, once the beer was thrown in the air and the crowd was rushing the street... I was ready to leave!

Tuesday morning we woke up early to head to Charleston. Luckily, Ben drove 2/3 of the way. So lucky to have him :)

We made it to Charleston by 4pm and got ready for dinner on the beach! It was a great night!

Wednesday, we went to the beach for a little bit and then the pool. I put sunscreen on, and I still got fried!!! Luckily, I had 50 spf on my face and it got the perfect little glow to it! Haha

Wednesday night we went to a local favorite, Reds Ice House. It's on Shem Creek, so you usually see lots of dolphins!!

It was a great night of drinking local mixed drinks, and eating some southern fried seafood! I definitely did not eat healthy on this trip!

Thursday we woke up early and drove about an hour to the Firefly distillery. We were hoping for a tour of the distillery, but apparently they don't do those. So we opted for the taste testing instead!

We got to try 6 different Firefly flavors. Then of course, they tell you how you can only buy certain bottles at the distillery, so we were suckered in.

It was beautiful out there!

After we went to King Street for lunch and a little shopping.

We went to Poogan's Porch for lunch. It was so good! I ordered the Shrimp n Grits and they were amazing!

After some shopping, we came home and took a nap before heading out to the Riverdogs Baseball game for opening night.

The game ended up getting rained out after one inning, but that didn't stop us from eating their famous hot dogs!

Ben ordered the Homewrecker, which was on Man vs. Food a few seasons ago. It was ridiculous!

Friday was another shopping day. We went out to the outlets for some spring essentials. I would die if the outlets were 20 minutes from my house! Ben and I went to a little Japenese restaurant that's tucked away. They have the best lunch specials! I got hibachi chicken and Ben got 3 rolls of sushi.

Which were all amazing by the way!

We did a little more shopping at Towne Center near my mom's house and then just relaxed until our next meal. We went to another local favorite, Crave, for dinner. It's by far, Ben and I's favorite restaurant in Charleston!!

Then, it was Saturday, our last full day in Charleston. And we were complete vacation bums and hung by the pool ALL DAY! It was great!

And a beautiful day! We grilled out by the pool for dinner. Another amazing meal and Ben and my mom made it all!

You really can't go wrong with eating in Charleston!!! Whether you're going out to eat, or picking something up at the Piggly Wiggly to cook. They have amazing choices!

These two boys were wiped out by Sunday!!

Loving on his hippo. So so sweet!

Now that we're back home, I have to get myself back on track with healthy eating! I made fresh salads for my lunches this week.

Thanks to my sister's inspiration. (Check out her new blog here!)

It's nice getting back to routines and schedules. But it's really nice knowing I only have 29 more school days left until summer ;)

Oh, and this little cutie showed up in the fridge. Thanks, Ben for the delicious surprise! Just what I needed after all these healthy lunches, haha!

Charleston Recap!!

{Brace yourselves.... Picture overload ahead....}

We had a GREAT time in Charleston last week. Great weather, great food, great shopping!! I couldn't have asked for a better week to go. I love having a later spring break now, because that means warmer weather!

We decided to drive down so that little Perry could meet my mom and go to the beach for the first time.

He did so well in the car!

He hung out in the backseat (notice his new puppy bed!)...

He nestled his little head on Ben's shoulder just watching the road...

For an 8 hour car ride with a 4 month old puppy, it was pretty non-adventurous. Besides the sudden hail storm in Tennessee on our way back.... Ugh

On Thursday, we went downtown for some shopping and lunch.

Found a new boutique, Willy Jay's, with some cute dresses!

Went to lunch at the Market Pavilion. It was on the rooftop of the hotel and had amazing views of Charleston!

Mom ordered the pizza, it was soooo good!

I love spending the day downtown just shopping and enjoying the atmosphere down there.

We went to dinner Thursday night at The Boathouse on Isle of Palms. AMAZING. I ordered the Spicy Shrimp and Grits. If you ever go here, you MUST order this. I didn't get a chance to take a picture because I was ready to try it as soon as it came out!! It was soooo sooo good!

Pictures at the beach after dinner...

Friday was much more relaxing. We went out to the beach early and took Perry!!

He loved playing in the sand, but was not so sure about the water and waves coming up on the beach. He would back up really fast to avoid the water. I was shocked because he loves jumping in the puddles when it rains!!

The rest of the day was filled with laying by the pool, and some more shopping in Mount Pleasant.

We went to a local favorite for dinner -- Crave. It never disappoints. Perry got to come along for this dinner outing as well.

We enjoyed a few of these...

and these...

Saturday was another relaxful day spent at the pool and just enjoying the weather!!

I am still catching up on laundry, my early bedtime during the week, and getting back to a routine. It was a short little trip, but a much needed one!! I love that you can hop in the car and drive 8 hours and end up at the beach. I can't wait to go back again sometime this summer.

I hope everyone is having a great week so far!!!

Weekend Recap and 5K!!

This weekend flew by! I am so glad I have a full week off to recover! HELLO SB 2011!!!

On Saturday afternoon, we went to a favorite bar on campus to prepare for the UK game (don't even get me started on the game Saturday night... That wasn't the UK team that had been playing the past few weeks. Maybe next year....)

We just went for lunch and to see everybody who came in town. Perry joined us, and loved being with us outside the whole afternoon.

He was pretty much held the whole time and then laid by our feet while we ate lunch. Such a good little pup.

Saturday afternoon, my sister, Karie and her boyfriend, Andrew came into town for the weekend!! We had made plans to run a 5K back in January and decided to run one at the Kentucky horse park in April. It was a great weekend for visitors, hanging out outside, and a 5K!

Saturday night, we went out to dinner to Saul Good. I love everything their menu offers and whenever I order something new, I am never disappointed!

We ordered Thai Chicken pizza and Veggie Pizza. Both were amazing! I ordered a veggie pita, but ended up taking most of it home so I could devour the pizza instead, haha. Seriously, so good. If you live in Lexington and go to Saul Good, order the Thai Chicken pizza, I promise you won't be disappointed!!

Then we went to another favorite, ORANGE LEAF! Karie and Andrew had never been, so I wanted to take them.

I think we are starting to become Orange Leaf regulars. We go about once a week. Pretty soon, our bowl is going to be as big as the one in the picture behind us with all the toppings we keep adding!!

After dinner, we came home and hung out with Perry while we waited for the game to start. Perry loved his new toys from Aunt KK!

Thanks KK for all of the gifts for little Perry!

We even put Perry's bball jersey on for the UK game, and it still didn't bring any luck to our boys in blue... We quickly went to bed after the sad UK loss.

Sunday morning, we woke up bright and early and went over to Kentucky Horse park for the race. 6:15am came wayyy early!

I didn't take any pictures at the race. I wish I would have brought my phone because the Horse Park looked gorgeous that early in the morning! I need to get an armband so I can run with my phone. Any brand recommendations?

Run the Bluegrass was a GREAT race. Everything was very organized, we had no problems with traffic or parking. Karie and I are thinking about committing to the Half Marathon next year! I think we are going to build up and do a 5 miler, then 10K, then 10 miler, and eventually the Half Marathon next April.

I used the Couch to 5K program on iTunes to train. I highly recommend this if you are beginning to run!!

We finished the 5K in 33:11 minutes. I am really happy with that time, considering I hadn't run a race in 3 years!!

We had GREAT weather both days this week. After the race, we took a nap and Karie and Andrew started the drive back north. Thanks for driving down for the weekend!! We loved having you, and Perry loved meeting you :)

We took Perry to the puppy park in the afternoon. I love taking him there so he burns lots of energy and can enjoy running around. Everyone always compliments on him and his temperament. I'm glad other people love my puppy as much as I do!!!

I hope everyone had a great weekend and enjoyed the nice weather!! I need another nap to catch up from this busy weekend!! Thankfully, I have the whole week to :)
