Polar Vortex - Snow Day Edition

Happy New Year!

I hope everyone is having a great 2014 so far!!

Mine has been filled with lots of couch days, Netflix, and watching the Today Show every morning.

And making sure Perry has been warm while we nap ;)

We are officially on our 5th "snow" day in a row. First it was the snow, then the below zero temps, and now pipes bursting in the schools. All of that together equals 5 days off school. On top of our 2 week winter break.

I enjoyed the first two snow days last Thursday and Friday! I got to spend an extra day in Columbus with my family after returning from Colorado. The only problem was, I had to drive straight through the snow storm on my way back to Lexington Thursday morning!!

The snow come much earlier than expected. I got on the road about 9 am and drove in it for the next 4 1/2 hours. It usually takes me less than 3 hours to make it from Columbus to Lexington! But, I'm just glad we made it home safely. There were lots of cars that swerved into the median.

I have enjoyed the extra time to clean up from Christmas, have people over for the National Championship game on Monday, run errands, etc. But I can honestly say, I'm ready to be back at school and back to a set routine!!!

Here's to hoping I get to see my sweet little kiddos tomorrow. And that it's finally warm enough for them to walk to school in the morning.

Also, I am hoping to do a recap on our Christmas and Breckenridge trip this week. Lots of stories there ;)

Happy Wednesday!!!

A Much Needed Snow Day!

I was anticipating this weather all week.

But I thought a 3 day weekend, followed by a 3 day week and ANOTHER 3 day weekend was too good to be true.

Luckily, the weather hit at the perfect time to give us a nice icy commute and school officials called school off early this morning.

Thankful for my boo, Rachel, for forwarding the text alert, mine didn't come through :(

I realize it's really not THAT snowy outside....

But, while running across the street to pick up some dry cleaning, I saw a pretty bad accident.

Lots of black ice out there. There were several accidents on the interstate this morning. So hopefully, calling off school was the right choice :) I just hope it wasn't a "waste" of a snow day. I'm perfectly ok with a snow day here in there, I just hate when we have snow days back to back. Hopefully February won't be too bad.

Perry had fun running errands with me and hanging out at home.

We caught up on Laundry, dropped off and picked up dry cleaning, had a pit stop at Starbucks and cleaned the house!!

I should be working on Grad school homework, but I just can't bring myself to do it. Guess I'll have to head to Starbucks and buckle down this weekend!

I'm hoping the roads aren't bad tonight so I can meet my friend for BarreCardio at Sweat. I need an intense workout after splurging on Mexican (and Margaritas!) last night at dinner.

Hope everyone stays safe and warm with this weather!

The Aftermath

The good news is we survived the tornadoes that came through Kentucky on Friday.

The bad news is some counties in Kentucky were hit really hard.

My heart aches for the people in West Liberty. They got hit with two tornadoes in three days. On Wednesday an EF-2 hit West Liberty, and just two days later, an EF-3 hit on Friday night.

You couldn't pay me to be out in my car shooting a video of this tornado.

In fact, this is a picture I took of our porch when the storm was still miles away from us.

After I took this picture, Ben, Perry and I took cover in our closet until it was clear to come out.

This picture was around 7:30pm, a few hours after the storm.

Thank the lord for smartphones! I was following @Kentuckyweather Chris Bailey and LEX18 on facebook, and we had the tv turned WAY up so we could hear what Bill Meck was saying.

I'm not going to lie, after seeing the clouds, and seeing the meterologists panic, I was a little nervous!

I am so glad we were all at home and safe. Ben was supposed to drive to Indiana for work around 5pm. Luckily, he was allowed to go home mid-afternoon and made it home before the storm hit. He left for Indiana later Friday night. I am so so glad he was able to come home.

If you want more information on how to help those in need, here is some information from the local news.

After the shock of the tornadoes, we wake up to 4+ inches of snow on the ground Monday morning. I couldn't believe it. our first "real" snow of the season, just 3 days after some of the worst tornadoes Kentucky has seen in years.

I must admit, I didn't mind the snow day and being able to lounge around all morning!!!

I took Perry out to play and he enjoyed every minute of playing in the snow. Love his heart.

Poor thing went to the groomer last week. I was so worried he was going to freeze out there, but he was loving it!

Hope everyone is having a great Monday!

What's Your Favorite Color Baby?!?!

I needed a snow day today, it has been amazing! I got to spend time in bed, lounge around, watch tv, catch up on some blogs! I finally got out of bed around 11:30am so that I could meet Tracy for lunch!

We had another great lunch at Buddy's. Probably the third time we have been to Buddy's on a snow day! Ha, I promise next time we can go somewhere else, Tracy!!! I love being able to just sit at lunch for an hour and half and talk and catch up and not have to worry about what time it is!

After lunch, we headed to my new fav place -- Nati Creme

So good! I have definitely stocked up on frozen yogurt and ice cream since I've been sick!!! Mmmm

Now on to the best part of my snow day, today!!!

Tonight I will be heading here....

For the big UK-TENN game! I decided to sort of surprise Ben with tickets to tonight's game. We had talked about going to the game next Tuesday against Mississippi State, but I thought tonight's game would be more fun.

He has taken such good care of me since being sick. I've had countless bowls of chicken noodle soup and several strawberry banana milkshakes brought to me in bed. He is amazing, and I am very thankful he took care of me! So I thought this would be a good way to pay him back :)

Like most Kentucky fans, Ben HATES Tennessee. He loves UK vs. Tennessee games, especially when it's basketball and we are more likely to beat the heck out of them. AND it's Bruce Pearls first game back from his 8-game suspension, so it will be a good one to attend.

GROSSSSSS! It kills me to even put this picture on here, but I wanted to find the WORST picture of him and I refused to have him in that ugly orange blazer!!!

Rumor has it John Wall will be in attendance at the game tonight! He hasn't said anything on twitter about it, so I guess we will see tonight! My bet is on him doing the Y when they spell out Kentucky!

I'm off to get ready for the game! Ben will most likely be sporting his v-day present I gave him last year... His P Patt jersey, ha!

Weekend Recap

I've pretty much been MIA from the internet world for the past 4 days because of this....

(via google images)

I woke up Saturday morning with a terrible sore throat. I thought maybe I just slept wrong and my throat hurt from having the fan on. Didn't think too much of it. So I went to Hot Yoga early in the morning and survived! We had panera for lunch, and a soup and salad sounded perfect. I should have realized I didn't feel well when I didn't even eat my food. Just had 1/2 of my salad. But, I didn't even notice my throat was hurting anymore. I layed down and took a nap around 12:30, thinking I was just tired from Hot Yoga.

Well I woke up almost 4 hours later with a fever and sore throat again. I HATE being sick. I had plans Saturday with friends who were in town and really didn't want to miss going out. I was so mad when I had to accept the fact that I needed to take medicine and lay low for the night. Ugh!

I've been out of commission and laying in bed for what seems like an eternity now. No going out Saturday. No Super Bowl parties on Sunday. NOTHING. I hate being cooped up in bed all day. Drives me nuts!

Thankfully, I made it to work yesterday because we had several meetings that I didn't want to miss. The day flew by and I didn't even have to time to think about my throat bothering me. Thankfully, I have been on antibiotics since Sunday morning.

I was so thankful when I got the text this morning saying we had a snow day! I just needed one more day of nothing but being lazy to kick out this strep throat! I swear I haven't had strep since I was in Kindergarten, right before I had my tonsils taken out. I never remember strep throat hurting this badly. IT SUCKS!!!!

So I've been loading up on lots of this:

and taking my antibiotics around the clock! I'm ready to be over this!!!!

Now I'm off to a lunch date with Miss Tracy to celebrate our snow day.

Hope everyone has a fabulous Tuesday and stays healthy! There's lots of things going around right now--flu, colds, strep--so stay load up on airborne or Emergen-C!!!

Snowed In

Lexington has been getting hit with snow storms every single week! First, we had snow days in December before winter break, which was crazy enough. Then snow that ALMOST canceled my trip to Charleston. Then more snow in January.... Which has resulted in 10 snow days for my school so far. I have to admit, I LOVE waking up to the text at 5:30 am saying school has been canceled and I can go back to sleep. BUT I get sooo bored during the day. There's only so much you can do at home before you just have to leave and get out of the house. And the problem is, we will have multiple snow days at a time, it's never just ONE snow day.

One day I babysit for this little cutie and his brother and sister :)
We played lots of games, including the new xbox 360 Kinect. LOVE! Need this game asap

And then we had another snow day.... So I did loads and loads of laundry.

And cleaned...

And spent the morning watching my favorite morning show...

And even hit the gym TWICE IN A ROW before noon. That's an accomplishment in itself!

And then decided it was time to get out of the house. I went to Target and let me just say how much I LOVE the new Super Save section in the back.

So many great deals! Found lots of workout clothes for less than $10!!

And then it was off to dinner at my favorite restaurant which my boyfriend, Ben and I frequent at least 3x a month!

LEX 18 is saying there's another storm heading for the bluegrass this week... I'm wondering how many days we will go to school this week. MAYBE we will make it all 5!!!

Have a good week!!

Sad UK Sports Weekend

This Saturday was a jammed packed schedule for the Big Blue Nation. Unfortunately it wasn't the outcome we were hoping for from either sport....

Saturday afternoon the UK football team traveled down to Birmingham, Alabama for the BBVA Compass bowl game.
I considered going down to this game because I've always wanted to go to Alabama, but it would have been too hard to travel Friday after my first week of teaching. And the boyfriend had to travel to Canada for business on Sunday. So that was a no-go on the bowl game trip. Sad :(

I'm thankful that we didn't end up going to the game after the final outcome. We did not play well, and I hate admitting it, but I think we needed Mr. Mike Hartline on the field for one last game. Hopefully Joker had a good 1st year learning experience, and UK football will be even better next fall!!

After the football loss, we changed the channel to watch the basketball game against Georgia. The first half wasn't bad and I thought we would be able to pull out a win. But once again, no such luck. Josh Harrellson, "Jorts," is still my favorite bball player this year, ha! (I think it's mostly bc of his ridiculous nickname!)

It was not a good weekend for UK sports fans!! Oh well, moving on to the big game this week, the National Championship! Of course, I will be cheering for the SEC team!

WAR EAGLE!

Tomorrow night, my friend is having some people over to watch the game. Hate that it's a late game, BUT we have a snow storm coming tomorrow, so I'm thinking (and hoping) we will have a snow day on Tuesday!! For now, I will be following KY Weather Center  and my favorite, Bill Meck at LEX 18 hourly to track the upcoming storm!

Hope everyone as a good workweek!!
